What exactly are essential oils?
Essential oils are concentrated compounds extracted from plants. Each type of essential oil has unique flavors, scents and properties. They can mainly be used in three ways: by applying to the skin, inhaling and ingesting.!!!Please note that not all of them (even by the same name) are safe to ingest or bring in contact with your skin, read the instructions on a bottle to find out whether it's suitable for consumption and application.
In this article want to talk about what essential oils are best to use in a diffuser. That's exactly how I started using them. And there's a lot more stuff you can do with just one bottle - add to cleaning products, make your own beauty products, make candles and use in a bath. If you want me to write about that too, let me know.
Before we start, I must also admit that I stopped using some of the essential oils I'm going to mention, and here is why. The reason is that some of these are not safe for animals to inhale. As an owner of Barbaris and Muffin, I had to give up on some. Make sure you check that beforehand, the recommendations will differ depending on an animal.
I will share the list of my favorite essential oils, but it's up to you to decide which blend you like the most and what benefits you seek for.
What is a diffuser and how does it work?
You may have heard about diffusers from someone, and may be wondering what they are and what is so special about them. The answer is quite simple. There are different types of diffusers with slightly different set ups and working methods, but their main task is to distribute (in our case) essential oils throughout your room. Essential oils are diluted in this process by turning into a mist and become safe to inhale. So as a result you inhale the essential oils without having to hold an open bottle next to your nose.
A diffuser brings you the benefits of inhalation and aromatherapy. As a beginner, start with 1-2 drops of essential oil per session. You can also use it with just water and no essential oils as a humidifier.
The 8 Best essential oils for your diffuser
Here I've made a quick reference table of my favorite essential oils! I especially love the smell of tea tree, peppermint and eucalyptus in my room.
No diffuser? No problem!
Just like you can use a diffuser without essential oils, replacing a diffuser when using essential oils is also possible! The answer is - a handmade reed diffuser.
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
- an empty glass container or a small vase with a narrow opening
- reed diffuser sticks
- essential oils of your choice
- apricot kernel, sweet almond or safflower oil
- rubbing alcohol or vodka (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix the ingredients in the proportion 30% essential oil and 70% base oil
- If you're using an alternative to reed diffuser sticks (e.g. bamboo skewers), add about 5 Tbsp of rubbing alcohol or 8-9 Tbsp of vodka per 1 cup of the mixture.
